As cases of Covid-19 begin to spike across the country, it’s important to stay steadfast in helping to prevent the further spread of the virus. While you continue to wash your hands, avoid touching your face, and follow social distancing norms, wearing a mask is an additional step you should take to ensure safety. Whether you are outdoors or indoors, wearing a mask is recommended to you and people surrounding you, safely.

In most countries, face masks are regarded as one of the main weapons in the fight against the coronavirus, and in some countries, it’s even forbidden to be on the streets without wearing a mask. There seems to be a growing consensus that we can’t stay in permanent crisis mode, hence compulsorily wearing face masks can be a way out.

Golden Globe Honors Foundation under the expert supervision of its Founder and CEO, Dr. Bharath Chandran (h.c.), has taken the initiative of distributing lakhs of masks and is also making sure that starting from school children to elders, all will be given adequate knowledge on the proper usage of masks. The members of the organization are trying to be the youngest volunteers who can bring the common knowledge of wearing masks to better existence in the future.

The key to all of this work is to wear masks properly. Make sure your mask is tight against your cheeks, tucked under the bottom of your chin, and pinch tightly where it meets your nose. The goal is to make sure that there is full contact between the top, bottom, and sides of the mask with your face. Make sure there are no gaps since gaps can allow your droplets that carry germs to leave and enter your nose and mouth. It may feel hot and stuffy but that means you are doing it right. Also, the mask must remain in place. This includes not removing the mask to talk, eat, or itch your nose or face, just like a scuba diver won’t remove his mask because water would rush in. The exception is for patients who take oral medication and only remove their masks for a few seconds. Otherwise, we should keep our masks on most of the time.
